History

Watchmaking origins

Founded in 1964 as a technical information centre for the watchmaking industry, CENTREDOC has retained its cooperative structure while opening its activities to non-member companies. With its focus on monitoring publications relating to watchmaking industry patents (RIH), CENTREDOC created a patent collection unique in all the world. This paper collection is still in use, complementing the digitised patent sources.

Developing in line with clients’ needs

Over time, CENTREDOC opened up its services to non-member companies, developing skills closer to the needs of Swiss industry, namely in micro-technology, chemistry and life sciences. Providing high added-value searching and monitoring services, CENTREDOC has become a trusted partner for many companies of all sizes, from SMEs to multinationals.

Cutting-edge technology monitoring

In the late 90s, CENTREDOC developed the first version of the RAPID portal, a powerful and user-friendly tool for collecting, classifying, enriching and distributing the results of patent monitoring for its clients. Far ahead of the game in terms of the online tools that have become commonplace 10 years later, RAPID found significant interest from companies specialising in monitoring. Since its version 3, RAPID has provided the possibility of combining patent data and publications from multiple sources, a unique position on the monitoring portals market.
